Dangkor Urban Community Development Program
Many Cambodian teenagers leave their families to work in garment factories around the edge of Phnom Penh. These economic opportunities are motivating teenage girls to leave school before completing grade 6. They are able to send money back home but are also exposed to long working hours and unhealthy lifestyles. Young women are particularly at risk of unplanned pregnancies and domestic violence.
We offer vocational training courses and loans to help young people establish small businesses like hair salons, barbers, nail salons or grocery shops. We are in the process of building a center to improve the quality of education available to the children in these communities from preschool up to primary school.
Our goal is to build the skills needed for economic survival and social wellbeing. I am very motivated to serve urban communities, hopefully generating greater opportunities and hope.
