On 4th July 2024, Good Neighbors Cambodia handed over a school building to Pongro Primary School in Pongro Village, Soengh Commune, Ou Chrov District, Banteay Meanchey Province, presided over by H.E. Oum Reatrey, Provincial Governor; Mr. Keo Darareaksmey, District Governor; Mr. Dongwon Jang, Country Director of Good Neighbors Cambodia; local authorities; teachers; students; parents; community members; and GNC staff. A total of 578 participants came to celebrate the ceremony.  

Through the support of the Mirae Foundation and collaborations from local partners, Good Neighbors Cambodia (GNC) accomplished a new school building called Mirae School Building, consisting of four classrooms equipped with comfortable equipment and facilities for 250 children to encourage community people to have hope and help their self-determination in education and good future.  

The ceremony started with the welcomed speech of District Governor Mr. Keo Darareaksmey to H.E Oum Reatrey, Mr. Jang Dongwon, and all participants, and shared his consideration as Ou Chrov district has good opportunity to cooperate with GNC as it is a good partner and achieved many projects, especially in the education sector that enhance education quality. After Mr. Keo Darareaksmey, student Sivon Chan Puthida, the representative of Pongro Primary School, continued the stage and said on behave of all students, I am very proud of GNC that always provides hope to children in the remote areas to have opportunity to access the best facility and quality education. I want to say thank you so much to GNC for always caring for our community.  

Mr. Jang Dongwon welcomed all valued guests to the inauguration ceremony of the Mirae Classroom Building in Pongro Primary School. He said Banteay Meanchey Province is a meaningful place where GNC started the project in 2002. We are grateful to the Provincial Government and Provincial Office of Education officials for your cooperation with Good Neighbors so far. Also, I would like to express my deepest gratitude to Mr. Se-chang Kim and the Good Neighbors Mirae Foundation, the sponsors of this project who always show passion, love, and interest in improving the educational environment in Cambodia. Lastly, I would like to congratulate the students of Pongro Primary School. You are the owner of this building now. I hope you take it for granted in improving your future and take care of it well. 

As a representative of Pongro Primary School as well as the Ou Chrov community people, H.E. Oum Reatrey turned over the Golden Award Medal to the country director of GNC and sent the appreciation letter to Mirae Foundation, considered as the represents of community people and children’s gratitude to their support and kindness.  

At the end of the ceremony, all honored guests and participants celebrate the ribbon cutting, visit the new building and classrooms, and host the signing ceremony on the Pongro primary school guest book.
