Rights-Based

A rights-based approach integrates norms, principles, standards and goals of the international human rights system into the plans and processes of development. It links the human rights system and its notions of power and struggle with development. This approach empowers rights holders to responsibly and peacefully claim their rights and encourages duty bearers to meet their obligations and properly implement laws, policies, plans and budgets based on universal human rights.

First GNC identifies the rights holders and duty bearers and the key human right issues. Any interventions are also based on national legal and policy frameworks or international standards that have been endorsed by the government. GNC provides capacity building in human rights and the rights-based approach to all community members so they can advocate for positive change in a peaceful way. In particular, GNC focuses on the Rights of the Child as endorsed by the government under the CRC.

Good Neighbors Cambodia recognizes that there a number of potential risks to children in the delivery of its programs. In recognition of these risks, the Community Child Protection System (CCPS) is integrated into all projects. This includes:

  1. Protecting children from any harm or threats arising from GNC project implementation
  2. Maintain GNCโ€™s reputation in the communities
  3. Prevent staff and stakeholders from any misconduct toward children.

The CCPS delivers customized services appropriate to the childโ€™s needs using official and unofficial resources to develop improved welfare for children facing chronic and complex challenges. CCPS brings together authorities, parents and children to discuss children at risk of violence, trafficking, sexual abuse, child labor or HIV/AIDS, and collaborative efforts to stop any abuse. By placing children at the heart of development, GNC ensures that the basic rights of children are protected by all relevant stakeholders.
